Set comes in original Carton Pierre casket with Jaques red paper trade label to underneath "STAUNTON CHESS-MEN Registered No. 58,607, 5 & 6 Vict cap. 100 IVORY ENTERED No. 35** H STAUNTON JAQUES LONDON".

The Casket in the Gothic Taste with chess board motifs and chess figures to the sides, the interior lined in burgundy velvet, base raised to fit the library model & lid lined in burgundy velvet.

The last two Numbers. of the four digit entered no. rubbed, the first two are number 3 then 5 show this set to be in the 500's which matches the red labels border decoration and the pieces to mid 1850s so box and set produced from 1854-56.
