Fine Ivory Staunton chess set, one side stained red other side left natural, white king stamped 'JAQUES LONDON' , king side knights and rooks stamped with crowns.

Set comes in Carton Pierre casket with Jaques red paper trade label to underneath 'THE STAUNTON CHESS-MEN' 'Registered No. 58,607, 5 & 6 Vict cap. 100' 'IVORY ENTERED No 3027' 'H STAUNTON' 'JAQUES LONDON'. The Casket in the Gothic Taste with chess board motifs and chess figures to the sides, the interior lined in green velvet.

A good early example the style of the knights and the Entered No. would date this set 1850-51, it is beleived that red label entered no.s sets began with the no. 3 making this set one of the earliest ivory examples known.
