Circa 1870-1900
Ebony & boxwood weighted Staunton chessmen , all pieces with red baize to bases and loaded. The design, style of knights and concentric turned weights and underside pattern all are the hallmarks of the late Victorian maker Whitty of Liverpool.
The pieces retain original French polished finish with attractive patina.
Comes in original mahogany lift top box with ebonised escutcheon and red baized lined interior.
Set comes with same period mahogany framed chess board with inlaid rosewood and satin birch squares.
