English folding ebonised board in the form of the book with gilded decorated borders & sides, the chess board inlaid with mother of pearl & ebonised squares. The spine of the board with “STAUNTON ON CHESS” representing two book volumes. The interior with red leather & tooled interior representing a backgammon board.
Set comes with thirty turned bone English backgammon counters one side stained red other side left natural and turned bone dice shaker same period as set.
An interesting games board showing the ever increasing popularity of the Staunton set.
