Jaques ebonised & boxwood weighted chess set, white king stamped “Jaques London” , kings side rooks with crown stamps, all pieces with loaded bases.

Comes in original baize lined lift top box with Jaques paper trade label to interior of lid also an original notice label , explaining why the pieces are stained black (ebonised) and not solid ebony as usual with Jaques sets.

Additional label reads

“The black pieces of this chess set are boxwood stained black as we cannot import ebony at present”

These historic Jaques sets all come with signed authors copy of the Jaques collectors guide and insurance valuation.
