REF1080 Rare Napoleon Figural Set
Circa 1820-40

Fine carved canton set one side stained red other side natural.

White king carved as Napoleon I of France the white queen as Josephine or possibly Marie-Louise. Red king & queen as Chinese Emperor & Empress, white bishops as Christian priests, red bishops as mandarins, knights carved as horsemen, rooks carved as elephants with towers a top, pawns carved as foot soldiers.

An interesting Canton export set, these sets were made for the Western export market , the usual figures seen as monarchs are King George III of England & Chinese Emperor.

The usual theory for the Napoleon figures were being made for the French market , although in the past thirty years more of the Napoleon sets have surfaced in England rather than France.
