REF1158 Jaques attributed Edinboro pattern
Circa 1870-1910
Ebony & boxwood Edinboro pattern set, the pieces with attractive slender turned stems in the upright style.
Set retains an original French polished finish.
Kings 9.5 CM Tall
The set was named after the Edinboro chess club and was advertised by Jaques as the “THE EDINBORO CLUB PATTERN”. Please see the advert by Jaques on this set and also the St Georges pattern set in the images.
Interesting to note that these sets are often dated at 1840-1850 as it is thought that the design originated in the late 1830’s by Lord Jon Hay. The Jaques advert has the “Ltd” in the Jaques address , this shows that the sets were offered for sale into the early 1900’s.
The set would also include a facsimile copy of the advert.
