REF1682 English Staunton Chess set & board /box.
Circa 1890-1910
Fine ebony & boxwood weighted Staunton chessmen , the king side knights and rooks with crown stamps. Knights as fine carved horses heads . The pieces fine turned pieces retains original French polished finish , all pieces with loaded bases and green baize. These fine sets were made by a good English maker such as Ayres of London.
Chessmen come in attractive English walnut chess board box, the exterior with inlaid chess board in satin-birch and walnut squares.
The interior with papered backgammon board. The board box is same period as the chessmen.
Board box opened 41 CM x 41 CM Kings 9 CM Tall
