REF1744 Large Edinboro Pattern Set & Box.
Circa 1840-1870
Fine turned & carved English chess set one side in boxwood other side of rosewood.
An impressive large set, with excellent detailed knights and retaining its original French polished finish. With attractive slender turned bodies. The set made by a high end maker such as Lund or Jaques.
The design thought to have been designed by Lord Jon Hay in the 1830′s-40′s.
The name “Edinboro” was used by Jaques in thier adverts, this style of set can also be reffered to as Northern Upright.
This classic turned and pillar / plinth bodied set were made by many good English makers from the 1840′s upto the early 1900′s with Jaques adverts from the early 1900′s still advertisng this style of set.
Set comes in original mahogany lift top box with green baize interior.

All the sets go through a professional workshop before they go online, any minor faults such as chips or splits are restored, therefore the sets are all in excellent condition.
