Circa 1750-1790
Early fine carved German playing set in the selenus style. One side softwood other side fruitwood. The kings & queens with triple galleries, bishops with split mitres, knights as carved horses heads, rooks as attractive turrets with brickwork decorated dome tops.
The pieces with carved decorated bases. A fine set of 18th century German chessmen.
Set comes with a mainland European fine mahogany “tric-trac” games box , interior as an inlaid backgammon board circa 1820-1850.
