REF1842 Large Staunton Bertram Chessmen & Box
Circa 1930-1940
Large turned & carved weighted Staunton chessmen, one side ebony other side boxwood, pieces with loaded bases and green baize. Pieces with attractive slender stems, knights as detailed carved horses and rooks with eight crenulations to tops.
Set can be attributed to Bertram Jones (1885-1969). famous English wood turner. A rare example as most of the chessmen made in the Bertram Jones workshop were ivory.
Set retains original French polished finish.
Chessmen come with original mahogany lift top box.
