REF1885 Early Jaques Staunton chessmen
Circa 1851-1852
Ebony & boxwood tournament Staunton set, white king stamped “JAQUES LONDON” . King side rooks & knights with crown stamps, all pieces with green baize.
A fine early example of the Paulsen style knight. The black knights carved in boxwood and stained black as with all tournament sets from 1849-1852.
In or after 1852 the black knights are carved from ebony. The set is not weighted which is correct for 1849-1852 tournament size sets , after or in 1852 this size was also retailed as weighted.
Set retains an excellent original French polished finish.
Kings 8.6 CM Tall
All the sets go through a professional workshop before they go online, any minor faults such as chips or splits are restored, therefore the sets are all in excellent condition.
