REF1905 English chess board by Murton of Newcastle
Circa 1902-1915
Mahogany framed chessboard , with mahogany back and front chess squares inlaid in boxwood & mahogany. With bone plaque to side ” Henry Murton Ltd 6, 8, & 10 Grainger Street NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE and at 16, Fawcett St Sunderland.
Henry Murtons moved to Grainger Street in 1902. A fine toy retailer and maker. Murtons also retailed Jaques of London chessmen. I have sold various Jaques Londn Chessmen with Murtons label of the perod 1900-1920.
