REF2075 Decorative English chessmen
Circa 1860-1880

Fine turned & carved bone chessmen one side stained red other side left natural. Pieces in the Rococo revival style, typical of the third quater of the 19th century. The bodies with carved acanthus leaf bodies , kings with maltese crosses, queens with Prince of Wales feathers.

An interesting English set made by a good London maker, the knights heads style is the same as bone knights seen in Jaques pattern books of this period.

Set comes in originl mahogany slide lid box.

All the sets go through a professional workshop before they go online, any minor faults such as chips or splits are restored, therefore the sets are all in excellent condition.
