Fine German Staunton type chessmen , one side in boxwood other side ebonised. The pieces with loaded bases and boxwood king with makers stamp. The label reads. “with spherical foot, flattened, and loaded with lead.” the chessmen are selfrighting due to the heavy shaped bases if tilted over they will correct themselves to the upright position. A high quality set with detailed carved knights with inset glass eyes , pieces retain original French polished finish.
The maker of these chessmen is Shcmitthenner’s of Nuremburg Germany.
Chessmen come in original oak lift top box with original paper label to interior with German & English language label. The label also indicates that this is No. 251 chessmen made in the No 1 batch.
