Early 19th century English chessmen , one side boxwood other side rosewood. The pieces with excellent deep cut and turned bodies with good uniformity typical of a top London maker such as Jon Calvert or Merrifield. The knights heads as attractive carved horses , kings with thick maltses crosses which have turned screw thread pegs again typical of good makers.
The boxwood side is natural with no french polished finish which is the norm for chessmen made in the first half of the 19th century, both sides retain a natural polished finish.
Design of the chessmen are identical to chessmen from Jon Calverts workshops in the first half of the 19th century.
Chessmen comes in original mahogany slide lid box.

All the sets go through a professional workshop before they go online, any minor faults such as chips or splits are restored, therefore the sets are all in excellent condition.
