Fine turned & carved English chessmen one side boxwood other side ebony.
Fine carved knights and excellent turned pieces, retains original French polished finish.
Comes in orignal mahogany lift top box with burgundy velvet lining.

The design thought to have been designed by Lord Jon Hay in the 1830′s-40′s.
The name “Edinboro” was used by Jaques in thier adverts, this style of set can also be reffered to as Northern Upright or Edinburgh.
This particualer set is the exact design as the Upright sets adverised by Jaques of London.
This classic turned and pillar / plinth bodied set were made by many good English makers from the 1840′s upto the early 1900′s with Jaques adverts from the early 1900′s still advertisng this style of set.
All the sets go through a professional workshop before they go online, any minor faults such as chips or splits are restored, therefore the sets are all in excellent condition.
