Early English playing set turned & carved in bone, one side stained red other side left natural. Pieces with attractive slender turned bodies on disc bases, Kings & queens with coronet galleries. Pieces with Urn shaped stems typical of the 18th century.
A good example of the 18th century English playing set. The red side faded to pink due to its great age, typical of 18th early 19th century cochineal coloured chessmen.
Set comes with same period English mahogany dovetailed lift top box with diamond shape escutcheon in boxwood.
