Circa 1820 - 1850

Fine turned bone German playing set, one side stained brown other side left natural.

The pieces with attractive slender turned stems, rooks as towers , knights as carved horses.

This style of set is known to originate from the mastercraftsmen of Nuremburg.

Set comes with original pine polychrome slide lid box , the exterior in green with the exterior of lid with printed / etched label of a Lady & Gentlemen playing chess.

A very rare find as most boxes for this type of set are plain pine slide lid boxes.
