Circa 1852-1853

Fine ebony & boxwood tournament size chessmen by Jaques of London. The white king stamped “JAQUES LONDON” , king side rooks & knights with crown stamps.

All pieces with green baize to bases. Chessmen retain original french polished finish.

Chessmen in their original Carton pierre casket with Jaques yellow paper trade label to underside , “entered No.2676” which makes the set number 676 in the yellow label sets.

Kings 9 cm Tall.

The design of this set is known in the modern codex as the “Harrwitz” . The practice of adding historic chess champions names to styles of Jaques chessmen is a modern practice which Jaques never used historically , although it is a great system to easily help identify specific Jaques Staunton Chessmen.
