Irish Killarney chessmen one side in yew wood other side in arbutus wood. The turned pieces with attractive muulti turned decorated stems, knights as arched horses heads, rooks as tapered towers.
Pieces retain orignal patina.
Set comes with Killarney arbutus wood board box of the same period as the chessmen.
The exterior with inlaid yew wood & arbutus chess board. The border inlaid with parquetry decoration in variuos fruitwoods. The interior with inlaid backgammon board.
A fine example of Killarney ware which was prevelent from the 18th century untill the early 20th century making many souvenir pieces and fine furniture using local woods of the Killarney lakes area county Kerry Ireland.
