The practice of adding historic chess champions names to styles of Jaques chessmen is a modern practice which Jaques never used historically , although it is a great system to easily help identify specific Jaques Staunton Chessmen.
The Staunton chess set manufactured by Jaques are the original Stauton maker they represent one of the most significant developments in chess history. Designed and patented by Nathaniel Cook and named after the English chess master Howard Staunton, these sets were first manufactured exclusively by John Jaques of London beginning in 1849. These chessmen represent the golden age of Jaques production 1849 – 1939, when their Staunton sets were considered the finest in the world. The design became so iconic that it was adopted as the standard for tournament play worldwid, a status it maintains to this day. John Jaques & Son, established in 1795, was renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship and premium materials.
All the sets go through a professional workshop before they go online, any minor faults such as chips or splits are restored, therefore the sets are all in excellent condition.
