REF3502 Fine German Chessmen hired for The Gentleman in Moscow.
Circa 1840 - 1870
These chessmen were used in the drama series “The Gentlemen in Moscow” Seen in most episodes and also used in the promotion pictures.
The Gentleman in Moscow starring Ewan Mcgregor aired in March 2024 on Amazon prime . The chessmen come with copies of the studio hiring contracts.
Fine turned & carved chess set, one side in pearwood, other side in rosewood. Kings , queens & bishops with fine multi turned collars and slender stems , bishops with fine turned cup shape mitres to tops. Knights carved as rearing horses carved with front legs, pawns as fine urn shaped bodies.
Set comes in German walnut lift top box , strung in ebony & boxwood same period as the chessmen.
Chessmen come with continental chess board , in mahogany with ebony & satinwood inlaid chessboard.
The interior with inlaid backgammon board. Same period as the chessmen.
