Fine St George pattern chessmen, one side ebony other side boxwood.
The large attractive pieces with multi turned bodies , fine carved knights and rook as towers. Pieces with red felted bases.
Set retains original French polished finish.
The design of knights and pieces are typical of St George sets made by Jaques of London in the second half of the 19th century.
Set comes with similar period English chess board box, the exterior of mahogany with rosewood & boxwood inlaid chess board with parquetry inlaid border in various woods. The interior with inlaid backgammon board.
