Circa 1840 - 1870
Fine turned & carved chess set, one side in boxwood, other side in rosewood. Kings , queens & bishops with fine multi turned collars and slender stems , bishops with fine turned cup shape mitres to tops, knights as carved horses , rooks as towers a top stem bases. The boxwood pieces with ebonised decorated bases.
Set comes in same period mahogany chess box with double hinge locks.
The chessmen with same period mahogany rasied chessboard with single drawer.
The exterior top inlaid with boxwood and rosewood squares.
The board & pieces retain original polished. The design of the pieces are typical of sets made in Germany in the 1800s.
