Large bone playing set one side stained red other side left natural. The turned bone chessmen with concentric turned decorated ring bodies.
The rooks as towers surmounted by flags.
Chessmen come in same period Cantonese fine detailed gilt & lacquer backgammon / chess board box, the exterior chess board with fine detailed gilt decorated work. The interior decorated to represent a backgammon board.
These fine detailed lacquer games boxes were made for the western market to compliment fine chessmen.
