Fine ebony & boxwood weighted Staunton chess set by Jaques of London.

The white king stamped “JAQUES LONDON” , king side rooks & knights with crown stamps. All pieces with loaded & green baize to bases. Chessmen retain original french polished finish.

A fine “Anderssen drop Jaw” example.

Set comes in original mahogany lift top box, with Jaques paper trade label to interior of lid.

Kings 9 cm Tall. Board 41 CM Squares 5 CM

The chessmne with same period fine English mahogany framed chess board with rosewood & boxwood inlaid chess squares.

Both chess men & chess board retain original French polish.

These historic Jaques sets all come with copy of the Jaques collectors guide and insurance valuation.

The design of this set is known in the modern codex as the “Anderssen drop jaw”. The practice of adding historic chess champions names to styles of Jaques chessmen is a modern practice which Jaques never used historically , although it is a great system to easily help identify specific Jaques Staunton Chessmen.

All the sets go through a professional workshop before they go online, any minor faults such as chips or splits are restored, therefore the sets are all in excellent condition.
