Large fine turned & carved chessmen one side in boxwood , other side in a rich grained rosewood. The bodies with attractive concentric bulbous decorated collars, kings with ring turned top surmounted by Maltese cross, queens with ring turned top, bishops as open mitres, knights as carved horses, rooks as tapered turrets and pawns as large bulbous turned bodies standing 5.5 cm tall.
These chessmen are typical manufacture of a prominent London maker such as Lund / Calvert / Merrifield.
Pieces have retained original polished finish and show a fine grain through out the rosewood pieces.
Comes in original mahogany lift top dovetailed box.
Chessmen come with same period English mahogany chess board , Squares inlaid in rosewood & boxwood , the mahogany border inlaid with boxwood parquetry.
Kings 12.5 cm Tall. Board 46 CM Squares 5.2 CM
All the sets go through a professional workshop before they go online, any minor faults such as chips or splits are restored, therefore the sets are all in excellent condition.
