REF3556 English Chessmen & board box.
Circa 1840 - 1860
Large English turned & carved bone chessmen one side stained red other side left natural. The pieces with balluster turned stems , rooks as towers, knights with carved horse heads, the pieces with carved ball decoration to bases and the kings , queens and bishops with the same decoration to tops, Kings with maltese cross finials.
A high qualtiy example with good detaied carving through out.
Chessmen come with same period English fine tooled leather folding games box , the exterior with tooled leather chess board and sides representing a book with elaborate gilt decorated spines inscribed “History of England” Vol 1 & 2.
The interior with tooled leather backgammon board with gilt decoration.
