Fine large size English St George pattern set one side boxwood other side ebony in the St George pattern chessmen. Excellent original French polished finish.
The St George pattern was named after the St George chess club London, the design became popualr in the mid 1800s.
A top quality set, with attractive detailed carved knights , fine turned bodies with good uniformity to all pieces.
Set comes with lift top chess box , same period as the chessmen.
With Same period Victorian rosewood chess board , the board inlaid with birds eye maple and rosewood squares.
