Large rare pattern boxwood & ebony chessmen from the workshops of London maker Hallet of Holborne. William Hallet first appearance in the London directory as a master turner in 1838.
This classic hybrid design came in the early 1850’s and were made in various sizes. The pieces with fine turned convex bodies. Excellent detailed knights , pieces with green baize to bases.
Set retains original French polished finish.
Comes in mahogany lift top box same period as the chessmen.
