Circa 1854 - 1869
Fine turned & carved English playing set, one side boxwood other side rosewood. The set made by E.Spurin 37 New Bond Street London.
A fine set interesting to note the label states “TO THE QUEEN & ROYAL FAMILY” this was only allowed to be added to trade labels if the business had sold to the Royal family.
Set comes with an English mahogany chess board with inliad sides and mahogany and boxwood squares.
Set comes with original mahogany slide lid box stamped “SPURIN” “LONDON” also a paper label “E.SPURIN LATE ELDIN TOY WAREHOUSE & JUVENILE LIBRARY, TO THE QUEEN & ROYAL FAMILY 37 NEW BOND STt LONDON”
