REF1425 Fine over sized English paying set, box & board.
Circa 1840-1870

Rare giant playing set, one side in ebony other in boxwood. Pieces with traditional multi turned stems , knights as fine detailed horses heads, rooks as towers with ball and cone tops.

Boxwood pieces with a good toffee patina, pieces with an excellent original polished finish.

Set comes in original mahogany lift top box with dovetailed sides and brass cartouche to top.

With vintage Englis large mahogany framed board.

A magnificent and rare example , the pieces with exacting proportions to one another. A set from a top maker of the period and most likely a special commision due to the grand size.

In one image I have placed a large Club size Jaques King with the pieces to give an idea of proportions and size.

Kings 16.5 CM Tall, Queens 13 CM , Bishops 9.8 CM , Knights 10.5 CM, Rooks 9.5 CM , Pawns 6.5 CM . Box 29 CM x 18.5 CM x 14 CM

Board 58 CM Squares 6.2 CM
