REF1557 Fine Calvert Playing set & Box.
Circa 1820-1839

Fine turned & carved ivory chess set , one side stained red other side left natural. The dome shaped bases , style of fine knights , and shape of pieces typical of the Dorothy Calvert era. Dorothy Calvert took over from her husband Jon Calvert in 1823 and continue manufacturing fine sets at the 189 Fleet Street London address untill 1839.

Set comes in original mahogany slidde lid box stamped “CALVERT 189 FLEET STt”
