Circa 1850
Large fine carved Canton ivory chess set, one side stained red other side left natural. A high quality set with good detailed bases and fine carved balls with carved figures standing on decorative plinth bases. The rooks as elephants with attractive pierced vase’s surmounted by flags and weapons.
Sets were made in Canton for the western export market.
One of the largest and most detailed sets of this type sold at antiquechesshop in the past 20 years.
