Fine English oak chess board in the gothic style, the chess board squares inlaid in coromandel and satinwood, the opposing sides of the board with inlaid mother of pearl plaques, one engraved “WHITE” other “BLACK” , with fine bramble & blackberry carved decorative border. The board standing on ogee bracket feet.
Board retains great patina and finish.
An excellent top quality English chess board showing off a high standard of carving and construction. This piece is typical of the neo gothic style of the mid 19th century.
