Fine large folding chess board of exotic hardwood , the inside border with fine brass inlay decoration. The chess squares inlaid in satinwood & hardwood , the hardwood squares with inlaid brass star decoration. The board with enamelled plaque to reverse” SHARIF HAYAT HOUSE DECORATOR 14, HALL ROAD LAHORE”
The board with interesting provenance , the board was purchased from the interior decorators Sharif Hayat of Lahore by the inspector general of police before partition , dating the board 1930s-1940s. The company is still trading today making fine furniture.
