REF1855 Jaques Staunton & Carton Pierre casket.
Circa 1855- 1860
Fine ebony & boxwood weighted tournament size Staunton chess set by Jaques of London.
The white king stamped “JAQUES LONDON” , king side rooks & knights with crown stamps. All pieces with green baize to bases and loaded bases.
A fine example of the Anderrsen drop jaw set. These sets appeared in 1855 in all sizes and were commonly with the 1855 yellow label boxes. Last known label and sets of this style were 1860.
Set retains an excellent original french polished finish and good patina to boxwood.
Set comes in original Carton pierre casket with Jaques yellow paper trade label to underside. The Casket in the Neo Gothic style with chess board motifs and chess figures to the sides, the interior lined in green velvet. The lid with tooled leather decoration.
Kings 9 cm Tall.
These historic Jaques sets all come with signed authors copy of the Jaques collectors guide and insurance valuation.
All the sets go through a professional workshop before they go online, any minor faults such as chips or splits are restored, therefore the sets are all in excellent condition.
