REF1878 Fine German playing set, box & board.
Circa 1860-1890
Fine turned & carved German playing set one side turned in softwood otherside in fruitwood. These attractive sets were made as childrens toys , the pieces with painted smiling faces and rooks with pierced domed tops with loose balls inside which amusingly make the rooks also childs rattles! A particularly well made example , good size & patina .
Kings 9.5 CM Tall Board 40 CM Squares 4 CM
Set comes with same period oak framed chess board with oak and boxwood inlaid squares. Set comes with same period mahogany lift top box.
All the sets go through a professional workshop before they go online, any minor faults such as chips or splits are restored, therefore the sets are all in excellent condition.
